- The Human Spirit Festival - Mission Statement -

Event Details

At NY Aikido Center, we will present to the public an annual event entitled "The Human Spirit Festival." This event will offer lectures, exhibitions, demonstrations and seminars lead by world-renown masters of their respective art forms. We will be working with other recognized institutions - non-profit, educational, and social, ...etc. - that promote the arts, martial arts and other cultural programs to develop our community presence and involvement.

Through these events, participants and spectators alike will be treated to a unique glimpse directly into the heart of Japanese culture. They will have a rare opportunity to learn from, ask questions of and simply observe some of Japan's highest level masters, some of whom have been perfecting their art forms for more than sixty years.

Our focus is to promote the traditional learning method of disciplined practice and personal study of the arts under the direct guidance and tutelage of a master level teacher. We will present programs that fall within the two broad traditional paths of study, the aesthetic path and the martial path. It can be said that both are mapped by the same ethos, overlap and lead ultimately to the same destination - a person's discovering harmony within, and developing the relationship between themselves and the world in which they live. Through this event, we will show that along either path, the sincere practitioner discovers the highest elements of the art - an inherent understanding for the need to discipline the self as a way of achieving one's personal goals, thus discovering a vital, "inner" power. This is said to be the living power behind each of the traditional art forms of Japan.

Through innovative exhibitions of traditional Japanese arts, we hope to provide an arena at which people from all walks of life may gather, and be empowered to cultivate harmony - within each one of ourselves, and learn to coexist within our own families, our communities, our individual countries and ultimately the world.
